CESSNA » 177

Cessna 177 is originally built to replicate the success of the popular Cessna 172 Skyhawk. The 177 also carried the same characteristics of thee Skyhawk which is a light single-engine, high-wing general aviation aircraft.
Introduced in 1967, the 177 made it to production from 1968 to 1978. With 10 years in production, this model has three variants under its belt.
The Cessna 177A Cardinal, tried to address the underpowered engine problem.  Introduced in 1969, the changes in this model included the loading of a 180 horse power or 135 kilowatts, four-cylinder Lycoming O-360. Reviews showed that the additional power under the hood had improved the cruise speed by 11 knots or 20 kilometers per hour.
Meanwhile, in 1970 the 177B made it to the production line boasting of new wing airfoil, a constant-speed propeller, and other minor improvements. When empty, the 177B weighed 145 lb. or 66 kilos more than the earlier 177A, with its maximum takeoff weight increased from 2,350 lb. or 1,067 kilos to 2,500 lb. or 1,135kilos. In 1978, Cessna built a deluxe version of the 177B packed, with leather upholstery, a table for the rear passengers, and a 28-Volt electrical system.
All Cessna 177 is built for a pilot and three passengers, originally intended for utility use. But eventually, it was used as a private jet by individuals and companies.
The retractable Cessna 177 RG, the retractable engine variant of the model is probably the most powerful among the three type of this Cessna plane.
Total units built under the Cessna 177 belt was recorded at 4,295 units. To date, a unit costs an average of $30,000.
Reviews noted that while the changes made to the Cessna 177 have boosted its abilities, it still cannot land as smoothly as the earlier Skyhawk. And while it gave pilots a wider clearer view while turning,  the tweaked designed also led to a too-far-forward center of gravity which is also dangerous for an aircraft. After receiving these comments, the company created a list  of modifications that greatly improved the Cardinal and returned the confidence  of dealers and customers to the model. Overall  assessment revealed that the absence of an obstructing wing support also makes the aircraft an excellent platform for aerial photography.
Because of the variations and modifications done with the Cessna 177, it has brought enthusiasts to various road shows to get the best exhaust and muffler components and service to keep their plane in its top game.
