First introduced in 1961, the Beechcraft Baron is a lightweight twin-engined piston, civil utility aircraft. Originally developed from the Beechcraft 95 Travel Air, the Beech Baron simply replaced the Travel Air's tail with that of the Beechcraft Debonair, in addition to streamlining the engine nacelles and adding six-cylinder engines.
The 58 variant of this aircraft was introduced in 1969 and in addition to being much more powerful than the Baron 55, the Beech 58 is equipped with club seating, double aft baggage doors, and an increased weight of 5,400 lbs. Depending on the variant, the Baron 58 comes equipped with either the Continental IO-520 or IO-550 300 horsepower engine. The Baron 58 also boats a longer fuselage, which not only increased the rear baggage space, but also more comfortable seating than the Baron 55.
Now the turbocharged Baron 58TC and the pressurized Baron 58P weren’t introduced until 1976. These variants were powered by turbocharged Continental TIO-520 engines with 310–325 horsepower, and an increased gross weight of 6100–6200 lbs, making both the Baron 58P and 58TC models capable of cruising at 200 knots at 8000 ft, and 220 knots at 20,000 ft, respectively.
